Homestead Act

provided public land to settlers willing to farm and develop the land for a period of time.

Pure Food and Drug Act

established the basis for federal food safety regulation and labeling requirements.

Capper-Volstead Act

granted agricultural cooperatives limited antitrust exemptions, allowing farmers to collectively bargain and sell their products without fear of violating antitrust laws.

Soil Conservation Act

established the Soil Conservation Service, now the Natural Resources Conservation Service, to promote soil and water conservation and reduce erosion.

Packers and Stockyards Act

regulated the livestock industry and prohibited unfair practices in the sale of livestock, including price manipulation and discrimination. The PACA Act, which protects the rights of sellers of perishable agricultural commodities, was later passed as part of this legislation.

Agricultural Act

established price supports for certain crops and authorized crop insurance programs.

Clean Air Act

regulated air pollution and its impact on agricultural crops and livestock.

Food Security Act, also known as the Farm Bill

established conservation programs, price supports, and subsidies for farmers and ranchers.

Food, Agriculture, Conservation, and Trade Act

authorized the conservation reserve program to reduce soil erosion, protect wildlife habitats, and maintain wetlands.

Food Safety Modernization Act

modernized food safety regulations and required the development of preventative controls to reduce foodborne illness.
